RE: World Bank funding of anti-gay organization
Greetings,
I am joining with thousands of others in signing this letter to you
to ask that you remove Parents and Friends of Ex-gays (PFOX) from the
World Bank's list of approved organizations to receive matching grants
from you Community Outreach Program.
PFOX is a dangerous organization, spreading hate through religion-based
bigotry and openly calling for discrimination against gay, lesbian,
bisexual and transgender people.
According to Faith In America, an organization founded to combat such
bigotry, repetitive therapy "causes much physical and emotional
damage to LGBT people by organizations who wrongfully say they can cure
homosexuality."
Of programs like PFOX, the American Psyciatric Association has said
it "opposes any psychiatric treatment, such as reparative or conversion
therapy, which is based upon the assumption that homosexuality per se
is a mental disorder or based upon the priori assumption that a patient
should change his/her sexual homosexual orientation.”
I urge The World Bank to cease funding or matching gifts for hateful
groups like Parents and Friends of Ex-gays.
