William Shatner reflects on George Takei's gay wedding

by PageOneQ

"You know, the whole thing makes me feel badly," Star Trek star William Shatner said of not being invited to former castmate George Takei's wedding. Despite the fact that Shatner and Takei had a minimal working relationship, Shatner seemed to take his non-invitation personally.

The Associated Press, however, reported shortly before the Takei/Altman wedding that Shatner indeed was invited, but never responded to the invitation. "Most of the invitations have been sent out, and Bill is amongst them," Takei added during an interview on TV Watercooler. "So there."

"It is unfortunate that Bill was unable to join us for our wedding as he indeed was invited to attend," Takei added in a Wednesday statement. "It is our hope that at this point he joins us in voting NO on Proposition 8, which seeks to eliminate the fundamental right for same-sex couples to marry in California."

"There's such a sickness there," he said in an interview posted to YouTube on Tuesday. "It's so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don't know what his original thing about me was. I have no idea."

"I didn't know the man," Shatner added, "but he's continued to speak badly about me for all these years...Finally, at the age of (I think) 70, he decides to come out of the closet and say 'I'm gay.' Like, who cares? Be gay, don't be gay--that's up to you, George."

"You'd think there would be an epiphany at some point where...George might have said, 'Poor Bill Shatner. He is such a lonely, desperate, unhappy man that he did all these terrible things to me--which I can't remember--I presume he can remember all these terrible things I must have done when I said 'hello' or something to him...you'd think he'd have this epiphany and say...because he and I don't have many years left in this world, 'I wish him well. I'm so happy that I wish him well.'

"But instead, what he does is he makes this big deal about not inviting me to his wedding."

"There must be something else inside George," he said, "that is festering and makes him so unhappy that he takes it out on me--in effect a total stranger."

Following are the Shatner interview, along with the TV Watercooler segment:
