Obama leads McCain among LGBT voters

by PageOneQ

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) has a 65-point lead over Senator John McCain (R-AZ) among self-identified LGBT likely voters, according to a recent poll.

81% of those polled online by Harris Interactive showed a preference for Obama, and 16% for McCain. In August, registered LGBT voters favored Obama 68% to McCain's 10%. Among all likely voters, Obama polled at 50% against McCain's 44%, with independent Ralph Nader getting 2% and Libertarian Bob Barr 1%.

Obama also leads McCain 51% to 42% among people who have already voted, and 15% of those who voted for George W. Bush in 2004 are likely to vote for Obama, compared to the 11% of voters for John Kerry in 2004 who will likely vote for McCain.

The results come from an online survey conducted by Harris between October 20 and October 27 of 2,303 adults, which includes a sampling of 231 self-identified LGBT likely voters.
