PageOneQ The film, Hina Maysara (or Until Further Notice), contains a lesbian love scene between two of its characters, which has religious scholars calling for those involved to be arrested and prosecuted. "Whoever watches the movie," says co-star Sumaya Al-Khashab (pictured), "will realize that this scene was important to the storyline and is not included just to be sensational." Al-Khashab also adds that Hina Maysara is not the first movie to feature a gay love scene. The only difference between her film and an earlier production, Emaret Yacoubian (The Yacoubian Building), is that the characters in Emaret were two men. Cairo University Islamic Studies professor Dr. Abdel-Sabour Shahin, in his call for legal action against those involved in the making of the film, says that the movie is part of an effort among Americans and Zionists to "destroy the moral fabric of society." Other scholars, calling the scene a sign of unwanted Western influence and a sign of moral breakdown in film, have also called out for stronger censorship of movie content.
A movie recently released in Egypt has angered Islamic academics, reports Al Arabiya.
