Gay candidate victorious in Guam

by PageOneQ

The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, a political action committee dedicated to increasing the number of openly LGBT elected officials, has scored the new year's first electoral victory with the organization-endorsed candidate, Benjamin Cruz, who won a special election in the Guam Senate.

Besting his opponents, Cruz won 41 percent of the vote, enough to secure the seat over challengers Telo Taitague and Tom Ada.

Cruz, who was elected to a judge position prior to his victory, is the legislature's first openly gay member.

More information is available at GayPolitics.com, the Victory Fund's blog.
