Anti-gays mark DNCC with downtown Denver protest; one arrested

by PageOneQ

"2008! Stop the hate!" young counter-protesters chanted on Denver's 16th Street Mall, as traveling Norwegian evangelist Petar Keseljevic and company held a picket in Bible-based protest, in part against homosexuality.

"You can save me from your insanity!" exclaimed local atheist, lesbian transwoman Jessica Sideways to the group. "Talk to an atheist! Talk to a non-believer! Talk to a therapist, for Christ's sake!"

One man was arrested, according to the Denver Post, but no other arrests were witnessed. A heavy, but peaceful, police presence provided by the nearby city of Aurora shielded Keseljevic, Rev. Ruben Israel, one other man, and a fourth who played gospel songs on a trumpet, from the bodies, but not the words, nor the one documented impromptu make-out session, among the counter-protesters.
