Recently, Congressman Barney Frank and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stood behind a new version of HR 2015, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), without important job protections for workers based on gender identity. Two bills are now headed to committee: A bill to protect the "GLB," and "companion bill" HR 3685 for the "T."
Rep. Frank has said that we should be thrilled about the opportunity to at least get protections on "sexual orientation" grounds, citing the greater political risk in full inclusion of the GLBT community.
But where does that leave our transgender brothers and sisters? Divided.
PageOneQ and the National Stonewall Democrats introduce the No Substitutes campaign to let Congress know that we refuse to leave a part of our community behind for the political convenience of Reps. Frank and Pelosi.
