According to a report first made by Gay City News and confirmed by PageOneQ, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, or ENDA, will be approved by the Rules Committee tonight and voted on by the full House before the end of the week.
The bill, H.R. 3685, is a version of H.R. 2015, providing federal level workplace protections for LGBT employees, but with protections based on gender identity and expression removed and reintroduced as H.R. 3686, better known as the Baldwin Amendment, named after co-sponsor and Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin.
An update sent by the National Center for Transgender Equality's executive director Mara Kiesling told supporters that "All signs on the Hill today are that Congressional Leadership plans to send the divisive ENDA that the LGBT community opposes to the floor for a vote tomorrow. We do not have all the particulars just yet, such as whether the Baldwin Amendment will be allowed. This means that we probably have less than 24 hours to express our opinions to members of Congress."
