Lambda to sue unless Redmond, WA grants benefits by July 17

by PageOneQ

Lambda Legal says that it has set a deadline of July 17th, the day of the regularly scheduled meeting of the City Council in Redmond, Washington, for the city to decide that it will extend equal family benefits to city employees with same-sex domestic partners. On June 19th, Lambda sent a letter to the Council on behalf of two veteran Redmond police officers, Commander Kristi Wilson and Lieutenant Betsy Lawrence, demanding that the city heed years of requests by both employees and several unions and offer same-sex couples the same benefits that married city employees already receive for their spouses. Lambda says that if the city fails to live up to its obligation to its dedicated employees, they are prepared to file suit.
