At Saturday night's Human Rights Campaign dinner in San Francisco, presidential candidate John Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, told the black-tie crowd that her husband would work for the repeal of hundreds of laws that discriminate against gay couples. Mrs. Edwards has previously voiced support for full marriage equality, while the former U.S. Senator supports civil unions in lieu of marriage. Mrs. Edwards also shared choice words about President George W. Bush on the issue of hate crimes protections. She said, "This president talks a lot about good and evil and the need to seek out evil doers, but, he doesn't seem to recognize the evil in hate crimes. The right to live without the fear of being murdered for whom we love is not a special right."
