Groups join together for marriage work

Leave No Family Behind

Community Alliance and Action Network is sponsoring "Leave no Family Behind: A Community Based Discussion on Marriage Equality, Access to Benefits, and the Everyday Obstacles Faced by Gay and Lesbian Families"

Time/Date: 7 to 9 p.m. on March 25
Location: Unitarian Universalist Church, 3401 W. Jefferson St., Joliet.

This event, which is free, will include a panel discussion and a question-and-answer session.

The event is sponsored by Equality Illinois, ACLU Illinois, the Unitarian Church in Joliet

In what is being seen as a growing trend across the nation, lesbian and gay groups are working closely with progressive churches and synagogues in an effort to build support for marriage equality.

Local events

On the local level, more and more events such as this weekend's Community-based discussion on Marriage Equality, benefits access and issues which face gay and lesbian families. (info in box at right) National groups National organizations are also reaching out to faith-based organizations. Recently the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force merged with Institute for Welcoming Resources and the Human Rights Campaign has expanded its work in reaching out to religious groups.
